Susan G Komen 5K: DO IT

I'm running in the Susan G Komen 5K in Birmingham on October 9, along with my brother, Blake.  I believe we are are also going to have several friends run with us as well.  It's only $30 to register and for a great cause that is obviously close to our heart.  Mom is doing great and recovering more and more each day from last week's surgery.


Visit my personal page here.  I've set a donation goal of $500.00 and you are able to give on-line through my page.  I was unsure of what constitutes a realistic goal and of course, I'd love for it to surpass that.  If you are able, I would greatly appreciate any contributions you can make!  When you have a family member or friend who is affected by cancer, it is the most helpless feeling in the world because you feel like there is nothing you can do.  I believe the best way to be proactive is to raise money for research, and to do so in such a physical way is rather empowering.  

History:

Susan G. Komen For the Cure was founded on a promise made between two sisters - Susan Goodman Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinker. Suzy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1978, a time when little was known about the disease and it was rarely discussed in public. Before she died at the age of 36, Suzy asked her sister to do everything possible to bring an end to breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise by establishing the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 1982 in Suzy's memory.

Few Alabama traditions touch the hearts of so many like the Race for the Cure. Every year, more than 14,000 people come out to give moms, dads, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons and friends the gift of life, support and hope.

We invite you to be part of this year's Race and help us to get closer than ever to fulfilling our mission and finding the cures for breast cancer.

Fees: FEES

Adult: $30.00 ADULT REGISTRATION - 5k OR 1 mile fun run/walk.
Survivor: $30.00 BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR - 5k OR 1 mile fun run/walk.
Child: $15.00 CHILD REGISTRATION - (14 years and younger) 5k run/walk or 1 mile fun run/walk.
Sleep in for the Cure: $30.00 This option denotes that you would like to register for the Race, but will not be able to attend the Race on October 9, 2010.
Sleep in for the Cure - Survivor: $30.00 This option denotes that you would like to register for the Race and are a Breast Cancer Survivor, but will not be able to attend the Race on October 9, 2010.
